Questions angoissantes

Cette phrase a été prononcée maintes fois par de nombreux hommes politiques et responsables syndicaux lors d'interviews, quand une question embarassante leur était posée.

A chacun son angoisse
Notre vie est dominée par l'angoisse du lendemain car nous avons tous un objectif à plus ou moins court terme. Pour le politique c'est les prochaines élections, pour le capitaliste le prochain dividende à percevoir et pour le prolétaire la prochaine paye, voire le prochain repas. Ainsi, bien que la population humaine continue de croître de 75 millions ou plus par an et une croissance économique effrénée dans la plupart des pays en développement, les problèmes relatifs à la déforestation, la pollution, l'émission de gaz à effet de serre, l'instinction des espèces, l'acidification des océans et autres graves menaces semblent moins évidents.

Nous sommes hantés par le hasard qui ferait s'effondrer la civilisation par une pandémie ou un astéroïde, la perte des connaissances indigènes répandues parmi les cultures du monde, le déclin des ressources que notre planète lutte pour nous procurer.

Anguishing questions

This sentence was pronounced time and again by many politicians or trade-unions leaders in interviews where a puzzling question was asked to them.

Anguish hits everyone
Our lives are dominated by the anguish of tomorow as we all have an objective at more or less short term. Politicians'attention spans only to the next election, capitalist to the next dividend and much of the public to the next meal or paycheck. With the human population continuing to rise by 75 million or more per year and with torrid economic growth in much of the developing world, the burdens of deforestation, pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, species extinction, ocean acidification and other massive threats seems more elusive.
